How Does a Product Qualify?
The home improvement item must be federally recognized as energy-efficient. Where windows are concerned, it’s how well the treatment can keep a house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Buildings use 35% of all energy consumed in the United States because windows make up 10% of a home’s insulated structure. It is also where homeowners can lose as much as 50% of their home’s cooled air or heat. Duette Architella honeycomb shades, with their patented cell-within-a-cell design, are federally recognized as an energy-efficient product. Incredibly, in the summer, solar heat gain on an uncovered window is almost 76%. When you use Duette Architella, it drops to only 15%.
About Duette® Architella® Honeycomb Shades
This unique shade has a cell-within-a-cell construction. This design works in two ways to save you money on your energy bill. First, it acts as an insulation barrier to help maintain a consistent temperature inside so warm air doesn’t escape in the winter. Second, it reduces solar heat gain from the sun in the summer, allowing you to keep your environment cool and comfortable.
How to Earn the Tax Credit
Purchase and have installed Duette® Architella® honeycomb shades of certain sizes with qualifying fabrics and lifting systems that are inside-mounted over a double-glazed window. The qualifying treatments will be eligible for a tax credit of 10% of the cost (excluding sales tax and measuring and installation charges), up to $500 in total during the 2016 tax year. $500 is the maximum combined total amount that can be claimed for all purchases of qualifying energy-efficient products placed in service during this period. This is subject to reduction in the amount of Section 25C tax credits taken in prior years. The tax credit is subject to a lifetime limitation of $500. Speak with a tax advisor to find out if you will be able to claim the credit. For more information on the tax credit and to download the required forms, please visit www.hunterdouglas.com/taxcredit.
