Exterior shades on a home with a decorated and furnished patio at A Shade Above Window Fashions near Charlotte and Cornelius, NC & North Myrtle Beach, SC

Insolroll® exterior shades allow home and business owners to say “no problem” to glare, excessive heat, and other adverse weather on their outdoor decks or patios. These shades guard against all that and protect against UV rays and insects without completely closing off views. A Shade Above proudly retails Insolroll® exterior shades; a key consideration for clients is fabric opacity. That affects how much light enters and how much visibility you’ll have.

Sheer Cloth Material vs. Opaque Fabrics

Fabric opacity guides how exterior shades function. For instance, sheer cloth material allows for more visibility while reducing brightness and heat. On the other hand, opaque fabrics are materials you can’t see through; they provide more coverage. Insolroll Oasis® shades offer many fabric colors, styles, and textures; they all feature polyester mesh or PVC-coated fiberglass.

Insolroll Oasis® fabric openness factors (opacities) range from 3% to 48%. That indicates the percentage of the open weave: A higher percentage means more visibility and light. Fabric colors also determine the amount of glare and heat reduction; light-colored choices reduce more heat, while dark fabrics minimize glare.

Insolroll Oasis® Shades: See-Through Fabrics

Insolroll® offers these exterior shades with sheer cloth material fabric selections:

  • Aurora: A solar screen fabric woven with vinyl-coated polyester yarns into a 2 x 2 basketweave. It has 27% polyester and 73% PVC solar fabric for superior view-through. Choose from 3% and 5% openness.
  • Natural Weave Linen: Insolroll® uses FR solar screen fabrics woven with varying colors and a slubbed texture to create an elegant, linen-like aesthetic for their Natural Weave Linen shades. This style offers a 3% openness factor.
  • Palisade: A client favorite, Palisade works beautifully on expansive patios. It’s weather-resistant with added strength from thick, 165 Tex core yarns. Choose 3% to 5% openness in lighter colors or 10% in Charcoal and Charcoal/Cocoa.

Materials You Can’t See Through: Total Privacy, Insect, and Sun Protection

Insolroll® opaque fabrics block light entirely, with maximum coverage for spaces that require privacy or complete sun control.

  • Tuff Screen®: This is an Oasis® exterior patio screen that’s three times stronger than typical insect screens. It also resists tears and holds up to active pets. This screen has 46% openness.
  • Tuff Screen® No-See-Ums: Also designed to protect against the elements and insects, this vinyl-coated polyester insect screen has 42% openness to keep out the tiniest insects, like biting midges.

How Can I Choose the Right See-Through Fabric?

The simplest way to answer this question is to sit outside on your deck and patio. What makes it uncomfortable: glare, heat, nosy neighbors, or insects? And what benefits do you want? Prioritize what’s most important. A sheer cloth material with a higher openness factor is the best option to maintain visibility. Opaque materials are better for areas requiring full privacy, efficient insect control, or complete light control.
