Ashley Rivers
Design Consultant
Ashley brings years of interior design experience and is an allied member of ASID and IDS. She is leading the launch of our Raleigh location, bringing a strong background in design leadership, client relations, and the Hunter Douglas product line. Ashley works closely with homeowners, designers, and builders to deliver thoughtful solutions and an elevated client experience.
Shelby Myers
Onboarding Specialist
With over four years of in-home and showroom sales experience, Shelby brings extensive product knowledge and a natural ability to educate and guide clients through the early stages of their project. Shelby helps clients get acquainted with our process and thoughtfully pairs them with the design consultant best suited to bring their vision to life.
Our Story
The Taylor family’s roots in window treatments began in 1993, when Dalton Taylor founded Artisan Shutter alongside his wife, Patti, and his brother, Jeff. That same year Dalton and Patti were married, and together the family began manufacturing plantation shutters—a craft they’ve continued for decades.
In 2008, during an economic downturn, the Taylors acquired A Shade Above, the company you know today. Through steady leadership and a commitment to quality, A Shade Above not only endured but grew. Now with multiple showroom locations throughout North and South Carolina, the business has expanded into one of the region’s leading custom window fashions companies. In 2020, their son Casey joined the company to help guide its continued growth and future expansion.
Today, A Shade Above operates multiple showroom locations across the Carolinas and continues to manufacture its own custom plantation shutters in North Carolina—a distinction that sets us apart from most window treatment retailers.
