Finding window treatments for many types of standard rectangular windows isn’t complicated because standard measurements simplify shopping; you can find solutions available at every price point.
Custom or specialty-shaped windows are another story.
Arched windows, bays, and glass patio doors grab attention, but off-the-shelf treatments won’t accommodate the distinctive shapes. Our design experts at A Shade Above encourage you to consider the preks of custom interior shutters for your specialty-shaped windows. Many homeowners don’t realize that shutters will fit even the most unique shapes at first, but then they see the stunning results.
How Plantation Shutter Styles Fit Specialty Shape Windows
Custom interior shutters—also called plantation shutters—solve unconventional window shape covering challenges by following your window’s exact window contours. Our personalized in-house construction and customizable design make them ideal for arches and specialty shapes.
Our talented team creates curved panels for arched openings, angled sections for triangular windows, and circular configurations for round designs. Each result has that classic elegance that makes shutters so appealing.
Plantation Shutter Styles for Arches, Bays, and Triangular Windows
Arched windows benefit from shutters that follow the natural curve and operate as needed. The lower rectangular portion typically has standard louvers, while the arched section gets shaped. We customize these for multi-panel arches, full arches, eyebrow arches, trapezoids, rakes, and angles.
We angle individual panels for bay windows to match each window section. This design works well for family rooms, dining rooms, and breakfast or reading nooks. Triangular windows, common in gabled ends and contemporary homes, require careful consideration of louver orientation, as louvers must complement the window’s geometric lines.
Bifold Shutters and Bypass Track Shutters
Bifold shutters provide an elegant solution for large, tall windows, French doors, and sliding door combinations. These multi-panel systems fold against the wall when opened, for added convenience. The accordion-style operation makes them practical for daily use but keeps the sophisticated appearance these shutters are known for. We make them in three configurations, with two or three panels.
Bypass track shutters cover expansive windows and sliding glass doors with an overhead track system. Our experts customize them with two, four, or six panels.
Custom Plantation Shutter Styles From Artisan Shutter
A Shade Above started out as a small shutter manufacturing business and over three decades, grew into Charlotte’s largest custom window treatment company. Our custom shutter factory, Artisan Shutter, is in nearby Monroe, NC. Our clients appreciate the exceptional selection and meticulous craftsmanship; we haven’t met a window shape we couldn’t accommodate.
We settle for nothing less than Furniture Grade “A” Basswood for our custom shutter components. Our competitors might use Gesso-coated wood, made with rough-cut lumber and a brittle clay coating. Furniture Grade Basswood is exceptionally straight, with minimal defects.
You can choose 2.5″, 3.5″, or 4.5″ louvers, different control options, frames, and divider rails. We also have stock and custom colors.
